What personal data we collect and why we collect it
When visitors leave comments on the site we collect the data shown in the comments form, and also the visitor’s IP address and browser user agent string to help spam detection.
If you upload images to the website, you should avoid uploading images with embedded location data (EXIF GPS) included. Visitors to the website can download and extract any location data from images on the website.
Contact forms/ Cookies
If you leave a comment on our site you may opt-in to saving your name, email address and website in cookies. These are for your convenience so that you do not have to fill in your details again when you leave another comment. These cookies will last for one year.
Embedded content from other websites
Articles on this site may include embedded content (e.g. videos, images, articles, etc.). Embedded content from other websites behaves in the exact same way as if the visitor has visited the other website.
How long we retain your data
If you leave a comment, the comment and its metadata are retained indefinitely. This is so we can recognise and approve any follow-up comments automatically instead of holding them in a moderation queue.
For users that register on our website (if any), we also store the personal information they provide in their user profile. All users can see, edit, or delete their personal information at any time (except they cannot change their username). Website administrators can also see and edit that information.
The Southern and South Western Birman Cat Club, the Club, is governed by its Club Rules, is managed by a Committee and for data protection purposes, is a ‘data controller’ within the UK.
The personal information referred to in this Policy may include name, contact details, financial information regarding subscriptions etc, annual awards, records of service, records of entries to the annual Club Show and such other information as may be necessary for the effective management of the legitimate interests of the Club.
This information is held in a computer database. This database is available only to the Committee or, for a specific purpose, to other Club officials and is used solely for the purpose of contacting members concerning Club matters and recording payments of subscriptions. It will not be sold or passed to any other organisation or Club member. Any person wishing to inspect the information held on them by the Club should apply to the Membership Secretary and have any errors corrected.
The Club collects, holds and uses personal information about:
- Members, prospective members and former members who wish to remain in contact with the Club.
- Those offering their services to the Club community such as judges.
- Others necessary for the conduct of the business of the Club such as suppliers of products or services. This information may be retained as a record of the activity and be destroyed six years after the last dealings with the Club.
The contact details of some Club officials might be published generally within the Governing Council of the Cat Fancy community.
The Club may retain historical archives such as records of meetings, publications, awards and the results of shows and events.
This policy and a statement regarding its compliance are published as part of the Chairman’s report at the annual general meeting of the Club.
The current club rules can be viewed here.
